Welcome!
I'm Karli Swenson, PhD, MPH(c)
I am a researcher in perinatal substance use at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, and a program assistant with the Colorado Perinatal Care Quality Collaborative. In my PhD work, I studied the potential safety or harm of using cannabidiol, or CBD, during pregnancy to reduce the nausea and vomiting of morning sickness using a mouse model. In my MPH in maternal and child health work, I am focusing on identifying perinatal substance use, improving substance use screening in labor and delivery units, and improving access to recovery treatment services. I ground my work on the basis of empathy, equity, and trauma informed care for pregnant and postpartum patients.
